How to care for hair extensions?

Will you take care of your hair extensions yourself?

Proper care can protect your natural hair from damage and extend the lifespan of your hair extensions. Many people are unsure how to care for their hair extensions after installation. Let’s take a look at the care steps together.

CLEANSE

— Brush out any tangles in your hair BEFORE showering to avoid matting.

— Always use SULFATE FREE shampoo & conditioner.

— Gently scrub your scalp with sulfate free shampoo using the pads of your fingers and make sure to get in between your rows.

— Rinse thoroughly.

— Apply sulfate free conditioner to mid lengths and ends.

— We recommend using a weekly hair mask to keep the hair in optimal condition.

BRUSH

— To properly brush, we recommend sectioning your hair and exposing the bottom weft only first. Hold the Seam of the weft with one hand gently brush with your brush starting at the bottom and working your way up.

— Never brush across the seams of the weft. The wefts are very delicate since they are hand-tied and the bristles of the brush can cause damage along the seams.

— Next, drop down the next weft and repeat the same process brushing from the bottom and working your way up the extensions.

BLOW-DRY

— Now that you have extensions, your blow dry might take a bit longer!…

— First, get as much moisture out of your extensions using a towel.

— Next, get 80% of the moisture out of your extensions using only your hands and blow dryer. Make sure to point the blow-dryer down, towards your ends to help cut down on tangles.

— Once your hair is 80% dried, you can then use a round brush to style the extensions with minimal tension.

— We do not recommend air-drying your extensions. Air drying any hand-tied wefts can lead to chaffing on the scalp. If you must, make sure to hit the seams of the wefts with the blow dryer to ensure the hair along the seam is dry. (Your scalp will thank you!)

SLEEP

— Always brush your hair before bed using your brush.

— We recommend sleeping with your hair in a loose braid or low-loose ponytail using a scrunchie.

— For extra care, sleep on a silk pillowcase.

POOLSIDE CARE

— We do not recommend going in salt water or chlorine with hair extensions. Always wear your hair up when heading to the pool or ocean.

— SPF protection that is not mineral based can stain hair extensions. Particularly blonde hair extensions are susceptible to discoloration. Brunettes may notice a slight color change too. We recommend only using a MINERAL BASED SUNSCREEN.

Any use of a sunscreen that is not mineral based has ingredients called Avobenzone & Octocrylene that will turn the extensions a “pinky-orange” color.

— To help keep your hair extensions color from fading, we recommend wearing a sunhat when you’re exposed to sunlight for long periods of time.
