What types of hair extensions are there? – 1

The advent of hair extensions provides an option for people who want to change their hairstyle or solve hair volume issues.

Clip-ins, tape-ins, wefts, cold fusion, hot fusion… what do all these terms mean?

There are so many different styles of extensions and terms, that it can get overwhelming if you are new to the world of hair extensions.

Let SOONG. HAIR guide you through the world of hair extensions and help you make the best choice for your hair. So, let’s get started!

Before delving into the types, it’s crucial to understand that hair extensions are divided into Real Human Hair Extensions and Synthetic Hair Extensions. What is the difference between them?

Real Human Hair vs. Synthetic Hair:

REAL HUMAN HAIR:

Human hair extensions, as the name suggests, are made from real human hair collected from a donor. Remy hair (Full cuticle hair) means that all cuticle layers (the outer layer of hair) are intact and aligned in the same direction, preventing tangling and ensuring a smooth and silky texture throughout their lifespan.

SYNTHETIC HAIR:

Synthetic hair, on the other hand, is artificial and does not contain human hair. It is made from various synthetic blended fibers to mimic real human hair.

LOOK & FEEL

Both real and synthetic extensions come in many styles, colours, and different forms of application.

The quality of synthetic fibres can vary, but they are generally stiff and move differently from human hair, so they don’t blend as well with your natural hair. They sometimes have a wiry or coarse feel to the touch.

Real hair looks and feels real (because it is!) and therefore blends more naturally with your hair.

COLORING & STYLING:

Real human hair can be straightened, curled, blow-dried, dyed, and treated with hair care products, just like your natural hair. Synthetic hair cannot be dyed, as most dyes contain ammonia or bleach, which can damage it. Additionally, heat can cause damage or melting to synthetic hair, so styling tools like curlers, straighteners, and blow dryers are not recommended. Other factors, such as sunlight, friction, or harsh hair care products, can also damage synthetic extensions. This is why, when it comes to hair quality and customer satisfaction, most salons and hairstylists prefer using real human hair.

QUALITY & LIFESPAN:

Synthetic hair is cheaper than real hair, but with that comes a trade-off. Because they’re made of synthetic fibers, they do not last as long as human hair and can easily be damaged by factors like sun exposure and heat. Generally, synthetic hair extensions last for a few months, whereas human hair extensions can last upwards of one year if well taken care of. Soong.Hair Full Cuticle Human Hair extensions last for about 1-2 years on average.

Now that we understand the difference between real human hair and synthetic hair, let’s explore the different types of hair extensions!
